Overall, more than 600 cybersecurity professionals across 200 teams participated in the tournament, making it the largest cybersecurity competition ever held. The organizations included several Fortune 1000 military, state and government organizations that participated in approximately 650 cyber exercises over a three-week period.

ICL, powered by the cyberbit Skill Development Platform, is the first hyper-realistic cybersecurity tournament that allows cyber defense teams to compete against real-world attack vectors, simulated in a cloud-based scenario, under strict time constraints, just as they are expected to do in the real life. . This is the third annual ICL, and the number of participating teams is doubling every year.

Teams competing at ICL 2022 were tasked with defending a virtual organization and faced advanced attack vectors and tactics including phishing, insider threats, keyloggers, and fileless attacks to name a few. The simulated attackers attempted to disrupt the organization through data exfiltration, denial of service (DoS), and other common means of attack.

Teams were placed in a virtual security operations center and provided with commercial security tools to investigate and eradicate attacks, including SIEM, firewalls, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools. They were challenged with cyber defense missions that required investigation and incident response, forensics, malware analysis, and decryption.
