Leading Semiconductor players to advance
Next Generation DF–SO Roadmap for automotive, IoT and mobile applications
CEA, Soitec, GlobalFoundries Y STMicroelectronics working together to define technology and ecosystem road map
ParisGrenoble (France), malt (USA), Geneva (Swiss), April 82022 – CEA, Soitec, GlobalFoundries and STMicroelectronics have announced a new collaboration in which they intend to jointly define the next generation industry roadmap for FD-SOI (Totally Depleted Silicon On Insulator) technology. Innovation in semiconductors and FD-SOI has a strategic value for France and the EU, as well as for customers around the world. FD-SOI offers substantial benefits to designers and customer systems, including lower power consumption, as well as easier integration of additional features such as connectivity and security, a key feature for mobile, IoT and automotive applications.
“CEA has been, for more than 20 years, a pioneer in FD-SOI technology, within Grenoble-crolles ecosystem. CEA also has a long history of deep R&D cooperation with STMicroelectronics.Soitec and GlobalFoundries and has been very active in the initiatives led by the European Commission and Member States with the aim of establishing a complete ecosystem for FD-SOI from material suppliers, design houses, EDA tool providers, non-factory companies and users. endings.”, said François Jacq, president of the CEA. “CEA is highly motivated by this opportunity to prepare a new generation of FD-SOI technology that provides higher performance, lower power consumption and lower costs to address the needs of major European markets such as automotive, IoT, 5G/6G and manufacturing 4.0.”
“FD-SOI is a key technology for the dynamic markets we are targeting and an important growth driver for our industry and our customers.,” said Paul Boudre, CEO of Soitec. “The FD-SOI alliance that we are pleased to announce today builds on Soitec’s ability to drive substrate innovation and help launch a new generation of semiconductors serving a wide variety of markets including connectivity, automotive, Internet of things and artificial intelligence. Together with our partners and allies, we want to confirm our technology leadership and continue drive innovation in world microelectronics. This collaboration also illustrates how closely us work with our customers to advance technologyit isaddress his future needs, Y accompany them to go to the market at a high pace.”
“We look forward to deepening our partnership with leading French and european concerned parties across the entire semiconductor value chain, and in particular to leverage our highly differentiated FDSOI-based solutions to address the rapid growth of low-power chips, connectivity and security in automotive, IoT and smart mobile devicessaid Tom Caulfield, CEO of GlobalFoundries. “The dynamic European semiconductor ecosystem is important to us and we will continue to invest to increase our presence in the EU as part of our global growth strategy..”
“ST He was one of the first innovators in DF–SO and has been in production for several years, with advanced custom and standard products for a wide range of end markets. In particularr, technology supports the automotive industry as it transitions to full digitization and software-defined architectures in addition to the development of driverless technologies”, said Jean-Marc Chery, president and CEO of STMicroelectronics. “We look forward to working with other leading experts in the next generations from DF–SOI that will enable our clients to overcome the challenges they face in their transition to full digitization and support the decarbonization of the economy.”
The CEA is a key player in research, development and innovation in four main areas: energy transition, digital transition, technology for the medicine of the future and defense and security.
According to the Clarivate 2022 ranking, CEA is among The Top 100 Global Innovators, in terms of the number of patents registered in France and Europe. We help companies in all sectors to be more competitive, creating high-performance products that stand out from the crowd and developing pioneering solutions that lead to changes in our society. We implement this dynamic approach at sites across France, helping local partners to innovate, thus helping to create sustainable value and jobs across the country, tailored to meet the real needs of the industry.
